Key Staff

Janis Boyer, RN • Director of Nursing • jboyer@txsaaf.org

Janis Boyer came to SAAF in March of 1992. As Director of Nursing, Janis oversees the residential skilled nursing/hospice program. She is responsible for assessing and coordinating admissions, supervising all CNA's and LVN’s, and managing and overseeing nursing care provided to residents. In addition, Janis manages the employee health program, infection control and employee policies.
Janis Boyer, RN

Prior to SAAF, Janis accumulated 14 years experience as a nurse in a variety of fields including ICU, ER and mental health. She serves on the board of directors for the local Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, as well as on the Community Advisory Board for the Vocational Nursing Program at Texas Careers.

 

David Ewell • Executive Directordewell@txsaaf.org

David came to SAAF in December of 1991. David served as the accountant for seven years before filling the Executive Director postition in 1999. David is responsible for all financial and budgetary issues, as well as having ultimate responsibility for human resources, policies and procedures. David programmatically oversees the nursing, administrative, dietary and adjunctive therapy programs.

David serves as the liaison with all of SAAF’s major funders and has been an active member of Title I HIV Planning Council. David has been an outspoken advocate for PLWHIV/AIDS community. Prior to SAAF, David was a staff accountant for six years at Psychological Corporation of Hartcourt Brace and Company. David is the proud father of a son named Austin.

 

Vanessa Gonzales • Director of Prevention Educationvanessa@txsaaf.org

Vanessa came to SAAF in March of 2003. As Director of Prevention Education she is responsible for providing prevention education for Bexar and surrounding counties from schools to jails to corporate offices. Vanessa focuses on educating youth on dangers of this disease and the effects it has on young adults as they continue to account for at least half of all newly diagnosed cases of HIV.

 

Theresa Perry • Dietary Managertlperry@txsaaf.org

Theresa came to SAAF in February of 1995. As Dietary Manager, Theresa oversees a staff of five providing three hot meals a day, 365 days year. Theresa consults with University Health System dietitians to review weekly menus. Theresa and her staff arrange special meals for holidays and celebrations for clients. Prior to working at SAAF, Theresa worked for Living Centers of America. Theresa has two wonderful sons, Brian and Xavier.

 

Jill Rips • Deputy Executive Directorjrips@txsaaf.org

Jill came to SAAF in November of 1999. As Associate Director, Jill has programmatic and administrative oversight, serves as Director of Development and provides strategic planning insight. Jill oversees the education, case management, and special events programs. Jill is responsible for all program evaluation to SAAF’s many funders. Jill is an active member of the Mayor’s HIV/AIDS commission. Jill has an MA in Anthropology from the New School for Social Research (NYC) and MPhil in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University (NYC).

Jill has accumulated 15 years of experience in HIV/AIDS and public health both domestically (NYC) and internationally, including the publication of articles in scholarly journals. Jill is smitten with her daughter, Sian.

 

Jose Cervantes • Director of Case Management • jcervantes@txsaaf.org

Jose joined SAAF in 2005. As Director of Case Management, Jose's primary responsibility is the coordination of case management, client advocacy and housing services to over 800 clients. Together with a dedicated staff of six, Jose is commited to ensuring clients are linked with healthcare, psychosocial and other client centered services.

Jose is graduate of the University of Houston and is a Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker with the state of Texas. Prior to coming to SAAF, Jose worked as a Social Worker/Case Manager with the South Texas Family AIDS Network, a program which provides medical care and psychosocial services to women, youth and children living with HIV/AIDS. Jose's commitment in the fight against AIDS dates back to 1999 when Jose first joined SAAF as a member of the Education Department and subsequently in Case Management.

 

Wendy Scholl • Marketing/Events Directorwscholl@txsaaf.org

Wendy brings with her a vast knowledge of the coordination of special events. She oversees all integrated marketing activities including public and corporate relations and special events. In addition she is involved in the day to day duties of fundraising and assisting with grants. Wendy received a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
