AIDS Awareness Week(AAW) is an extension of World AIDS Day (Dec. 1), a full week to present events or awareness programs. AIDS Awareness Week will occur on the full week in which World AIDS Day falls, which this year is December 1-December 7.
AIDS Awareness Week allows groups and individuals an opportunity to present programs or activities throughout the week, therefore offering more opportunities for the public to participate, attend or simply learn about HIV/AIDS issues.

Worlds AIDS Day Gathering of Remembrance & Hope, presented by San Antonio World AIDS Day Collaborative
December 1 | 6:00pm-7:00pm: Social and Information Booths | 7:00pm-8:00pm: Gathering of Remembrance and Hope | 8:30pm-9:00pm: Recessional of light. This program includes music, dance, acknowlegments and more in an informative and entertaining evening that celebrates life, remembers those we've lost to HIV, and connects everyone who has been impacted in some way by HIV/AIDS.

Red Balloon Release, presented by San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF)
December 2 | SAAF is inviting the public at large to join in a celebration of life and rememberace of those lost to HIV or AIDS. The gathering will take place at the SAAF office and will include a few short words of rememberance and an opportunity to share names of loved ones. Balloons will be provided. All are welcome. NOTE: Biodegradable balloons will be used as well as twine. http://www.txsaaf.org

St. Phillips College AIDS Awareness Days
December 2 and 3 | St. Phillips College's Eastside and Westside locations will be hosting AIDS Awareness events in recognition of World AIDS Day. Events will take place Dec. 2nd at the Eastside location and Dec. 3rd at the Westside location. Testing for HIV and Syphilis will be available from area agencies as well as infrmation booths, snacks and giveaways.

EmpoweRED to Change
December 3 | The program will feature a presentation by Upsilon Nu Chapter on the population affected by HIV/AIDS and current efforts in place to combat the social issue. An expert from the San Antonio AIDS Foundation will give a description of the services offered and a history on the organization and speak about transmission and progression of the disease. The speaker will also advocate for testing and urge audience to promote testing to their friends and family. A woman affected by AIDS will share her regrets, realizations, barriers, consequences,, etc… she has overcome and how the disease has affected her life. The Play Campaign will offer a free testing booth outside and allow students to get their results anonymously and pass out free condoms.
