ORAL HEALTH/ DENTAL CARE

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation provides HIV-related oral health care or dental care through dental subcontractors in the community.  Through Ryan White funding SAAF can subcontract diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic services by general dental practitioners, dental specialists, and dental hygienists.

Services provided to clients include:

• Routine dental examinations
• Prophylaxis or preventive care
• X-rays
• Fillings and replacements,
• Endodonistry, or the treatment of gum disease and lesions
• Oral surgery

Cosmetic dentistry, for cosmetic purposes only, is prohibited.

Emergency procedures will be attended to in a 48 hour basis, dependent on dental operatory operating hours. If the provider cannot provide adequate services for emergency care, the patient will be referred to a hospital emergency room.

Ryan White funded dental services are available only for those clients who meet the Ryan White eligibility requirements, and have no private or public dental insurance coverage.

To qualify for dental services, clients must be referred by their primary case manager to SAAF’s case management department.
