About the WEBB Party
What has now become San Antonio’s alternative Fiesta® event, the WEBB Party has become the single largest fundraiser for the San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF). With a cuisine tasting featuring the finest fare from local restaurateurs, caterers and celebrated chefs, a full open bar, music provided by guest DJs, a silent auction and a stellar crowd, WEBB Hosts and corporate sponsors are critical to the event’s fun and success. They underwrite the planning costs so that 100% of event-night proceeds go directly into SAAF’s client services. The WEBB Party 2009 will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009 at the San Antonio Museum of Art and is expected to garner upwards of 3000 attendees.
A little history
The first ever WEBB Party was held in April of 1990. A handful of friends decided to throw a spectacular Fiesta Kick off Party to benefit the San Antonio AIDS Foundation, and WEBB began its life as a casual backyard B-B-Q. In the year 2000 SAAF took over the planning of the event and The WEBB Party has since become one of SAAF’s most successful fundraisers.
What does “WEBB” stand for anyway?
There are many theories about the meaning of WEBB and the origin of its name. No, it’s not an acronym, but we’ve gotten some pretty interesting theories as to what it stands for. WEBB actually got its name and unusual spelling from one of its founders. Mr. X, as we will refer to him, had an inspirational calendar featuring the Ethiopian proverb, “When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion.” The planners were so moved by the saying that they decided to name the party WEB in honor of its sentiment. Unfortunately, Mr. X inadvertently added an extra “b” to the invitation and for some reason the misspelling stuck.
You never know who you might see!
WEBB Party attracts a bevy of guests and personalities. In the past few years WEBB has welcomed Eduardo Xol of ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition. In addition, we have also welcomed Kathryn Joosten from “Desperate Housewives”. At WEBB Party, you never know who might drop in!
What’s a guest to do?
We’re sure you’re wondering what happens at WEBB. Well, WEBB is a fantastic who’s who, see and be seen social event. It features an amazing cuisine tasting featuring food from dozens of San Antonio’s finest establishments in addition to a full bar. A silent auction as well as a DJ and entertainment top off the affair. The dress code is “anything goes”. Most WEBB patrons dress in what we like to refer as Fiesta Glam (pretty, yet comfortable).
